Why You Feel Empty Even When You Have Everything 🌊

You have more than any generation in history. And you have never felt this empty.
More information, more comfort, more ways to connect than ever before. And still, at the end of the day, that quiet feeling that something essential is missing.
So you reach for the next thing: a new goal, a new purchase, a new relationship, a new achievement. It works for a while. Then it wears off, and the emptiness comes back.
Here is my case. The emptiness is not a flaw in you. It is evidence. It is the signature of a thirst for the limitless, a thirst that only the Infinite can meet, and the Infinite is already inside you.
Every Gain Wears Off, for Everyone ⏳
What wears off was never broken in you. Wearing off is the law of every limited thing.
Tantra states the law plainly: getting anything limited only creates the want for more, so the search for happiness never ends. Every gain raises the bar for the next one, so the satisfaction never stays.
Psychology found the same law and named it the hedonic treadmill: after a gain, people drift back toward the happiness they had before. In a famous 1978 study, Philip Brickman and his colleagues compared major lottery winners with people who had won nothing. The winners were no happier, and they took less pleasure in ordinary things.
Some point to newer studies that say money does make people happier. The newer studies found something more precise, and it strengthens the case. In 2020, researchers who surveyed thousands of Swedish lottery players years after their wins found that big winners rated their lives higher for more than a decade. But the effect on how happy they actually felt was much smaller. Money changed how people judged their circumstances far more than it changed the feeling inside. Money can fix your circumstances. It was never made to fill the emptiness.
You can run the same experiment on your own life right now. Which achievement ended your wanting for good? Which purchase, which praise, which pleasure? Each one came, and each one went. Whatever comes, goes.
The Thirst Is for the Limitless 💧
The thirst survives every limited satisfaction because it is a thirst for the limitless.
Follow the logic. If you were thirsty for one particular thing, getting that thing would end the thirst. It never does. The wanting simply moves on to the next thing. A thirst that survives every limited satisfaction is, by definition, a thirst no limited thing can satisfy.
This is exactly what Tantra teaches: every living being carries a thirst for the limitless, and no limited thing can ever quench it. Share out all the wealth of the world fairly, and people would still long for more, because the desires of the human mind have no limit.
It would be easy to conclude that the answer is to want less, to kill the desire. But Tantra does not ask you to kill your thirst, and it could not work if it did, because a desire you push away comes back the way a thought you push away comes back. More important, the thirst is not your enemy. It is your compass. It points past every limited thing toward the only thing big enough to meet it. There is nothing wrong with wanting. You have been aiming an infinite want at limited targets.
Hidden Like Butter in Cream 🪔
The Infinite is not far away. It is inside you.
Take the treadmill to its logical end. If more things outside you can never reach the emptiness, then what fills it cannot be one more thing outside you. The only place left to look is the one place no purchase can reach: within. Tantra's image for this is butter in cream. The butter is not somewhere else. It is in the cream already, hidden in every drop.
If it is inside you, why have you never felt it? Because you will never taste butter by staring at the cream. It appears only when the cream is churned. Being present is not the same as being experienced. Meditation is the churning: the method that turns what is present in you into what you actually live.
And the method works by a law you can watch in yourself: the mind becomes what it dwells on. Dwell only on limited things, and the mind grows small and restless. Give it the Infinite, and it keeps expanding. And as it expands, suffering slowly fades.
The Rarest Thing You Will Ever Be Given 🌅
This human life is a golden opportunity.
A tree cannot meditate. An animal cannot ask who it really is. You can. The capacity to turn your attention back toward its own source is the rarest thing you will ever own, and it is already in your hands.
You do not yet know how lucky you are. Winning the lottery would change your bank account and, as the studies show, little else. This changes the one who is living your life.
Spend this life only on the limited, and you waste the rarest thing you will ever be given. Do not wait for someday. Tomorrow's sun may not rise.
Begin from this very moment, and let your thirst take you where it was always pointing: to bliss, to liberation, to the highest joy a human being can know.
This is what you were born for.
